Dr Schulte obtained her medical degree at Humboldt University Berlin, Germany. She trained and worked and lectured as a child psychiatrist and psychotherapist in various tertiary and academic hospital settings in Germany and South Africa and is boarded and licensed as a sub-specialist psychiatrist in both countries. Dr Schulte completed the Fellowship in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at Tygerberg Hospital, Department of Psychiatry, Stellenbosch University, joining the Division of Child & Adolescent Psychiatry (DCAP) at Red Cross War Memorial Children’s Hospital, Department of Psychiatry & Mental Health, University of Cape Town as a specialist consultant and lecturer before opening her private practice in 2018. Dr Schulte is committed to providing holistic care to children, teenagers, and their families, with the aim of healing and enhancing lives. Dr Schulte sees a variety of mental health challenges (e.g., Depression, Anxiety, Trauma, Obsessive-compulsive Disorders, ADHD, Learning Difficulties, Neurodevelopmental Disorders, challenging behaviour disorders among others etc) She has special expertise in the assessment of autism spectrum disorders and early developmental disorders and a special interest and training in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy), BWRT (Brain Work Recursive Therapy), Mindfulness-based Stress Reduction Therapy. She uses these in combination with psychopharmacology to promote personal recovery and works closely with psychologists, occupational therapists, speech therapists, social workers, and educators. Dr Schulte values working with other members of the multidisciplinary team. She believes in offering a comprehensive assessment determining biological, emotional, and social factors contributing to the presenting symptoms. She then provides support and guidance to the families as needed and works both individually and with the caregivers to find suitable strategies, which may include medication or psychotherapy.

Initial assessments are usually 90 minutes long and will include exploring the presenting concerns as well as a thorough background medical, developmental and family history. Younger children and adolescents are usually seen both individually and together with their parents during a session. Additional information may be obtained through standardised rating scales. Follow up appointments are between 30 and 60 minutes.
