Save Our Schools Non Profit Organisation Gets their Hands Dirty for Global Handwashing Day
Cape Town - October 18, 2022 – On Thursday, the 13th of October, Save Our Schools Non Profit Organisation (SOSNPO) launched an educational campaign within the Kraaifontein community, ‘Get Your Hands Dirty’. The campaign sought to inform and raise awareness around appropriate hand hygiene and encourage happy handwashing amongst children, community members and institutions within the area.
Save Our Schools Non Profit Organisation hosted two community centred activations in celebration of Global Handwashing Day, and welcomed PepsiCo Foundation as the headline sponsor. The initial activation hosted at Lofdal Park International welcomed over 200 individuals from Kraaifontein to an educational presentation on appropriate handwashing. The event saw members of the public each receive a handwashing kit, comprised of essential WASH items including soap, a flannel and menstruation wear.
The second activation hosted on the 14th of October, was inspired by children’s inquisitive nature, and saw the Grade R pupils get their hands dirty through an interactive mud search and hand-painting activities. The activation saw 100 children receive essential handwash kits, courtesy of Puma, Lush, Lifebuoy, Xylem, Dis-Chem, Dis-Chem Foundation, Mountain Falls, Recycle 1st, City of Cape Town, PepsiCo and PepsiCo Foundation, all contributing to the worthy cause.
CEO of Save Our Schools Non Profit Organisation, Shelley Humphreys comments, “Save Our Schools Non Profit has been focused on improving WASH within the Kraaifontein area for the last 4.5 years. Lack of access to hygiene facilities and poor handwashing habits is a reality for many children and communities in South Africa, affecting their health and wellbeing. It’s vital that non-profits, government and the private sector work together to overcome the challenges within this sector.”
Save Our Schools is proud to lend a helping hand to communities in need and encourage happy handwashing amongst school children. Information of the Day Global Handwashing Day is a global advocacy day committed to raising awareness about the importance of handwashing with soap, as a means to improve handwashing habits and save lives.
