The Ashton brand is a unique concept within the context of the South African Educational System. It offers what we term ‘Two Worlds in One’ covering both the Independent Examination Board (IEB) and the Cambridge International Examinations (CIE). Both curricula are highly credible, composed with integrity and delivered professionally. Our Dream Team of staff are exceptional as they are qualified to teach across both curricula.

Recently, we have introduced the Reggio Emelia educational concept to teach children through their own interests and at the same time, inspire lateral thinking to enhance their potential. The College Ethos and Philosophy is to be value-driven where emphasis and encouragement is placed on each individual to be the best version of themselves. We encourage our students to participate across the full spectrum of what the College has to offer and at the same time, motivate them to work hard in the pursuit of excellence.

Our strong Christian Ethos, together with our core Family values has been the backbone of our growth over the last 13 years.

Ashlings Academics

Our Pre-school groups range from Grade 0000 through to Grade R, enabling us to cater for 3 to 6 year olds. The classrooms are fully equipped with games and teaching materials, which enable our teachers to provide a stimulating and creative atmosphere, in which students are guided and encouraged, through a rich hands-on experience, to develop optimally.

Foundation Phase Academics

Ashton’s introduction to formal learning is a happy and exciting one. We believe in nurturing the individual and supporting different learning styles. Students in this part of their studies are exposed to a rich and varied curriculum, embracing many aspects of the IEB and Cambridge Curricula. We encourage creative thinkers and instill a love for the arts, culture and sport.

Intersen Phase Academics

The Intersen Phase dovetails the South African national Curriculum Statement with the rich Cambridge International Primary Checkpoint Programme. The Grade 6’s, in their last year of the intermediate phase, write the Primary Checkpoint external examinations in English, Mathematics and Science. In this phase, there is strong focus on developing and maintaining a strong work ethic while encouraging a growth mindset which promotes critical thinking skills.

Senior College Academics

We pride ourselves on combining the excitement and innovation of a relatively new concept in education by offering students the best of both worlds. In Form 1 the students are introduced to the broader spectrum of subjects offered on a cross-curriculum of the Cambridge International Examinations (CIE) and the Independent Examinations Board (IEB). At the end of this first year, students choose seven subjects for their Form 2 year selecting either the Cambridge Curriculum or the IEB Curriculum, provided they have achieved the required minimum standard. Our focus is on Academic, Sport and Cultural Excellence.

Culture at Ashton International College, Ballito has grown tremendously over the last couple of years. Our students are exposed to various cultural opportunities mainly in the Drama and Music Departments. Our students are involved on a termly basis and through their commitment have created an inspiring challenge to all our students to get involved

A wide range of cultural activities are offered in the Junior College and Senior College and full participation in Eisteddfods is encouraged, where the dramatic arts, dance and music are celebrated. Public speaking, theatre and musical festivals, all provide opportunities for students to demonstrate their cultural talents.

Both the Foundation and Intersen Choirs perform at many of our school functions, while the popular Marimba band is often requested to perform at outside functions too. Violin and guitar lessons also take place on campus.

As dance and music are both subjects offered on the IEB Curriculum and Music on the Cambridge Curriculum, there is never a shortage of entertainment. The annual Ashton’s Got Talent is the showcase of the best of the best. Dramatic Arts is celebrated at Ashton with annual short plays, and a full musical production every alternate year.

We have continued to grow our sporting code offerings and sport is offered throughout the school year. Our sport is seasonal and at times, the different sporting codes will overlap, especially when pre-season training is in progress. We require our students to display sportsmanship at all times, and promote good, healthy relationships with all schools we engage with on the sports fields. The ultimate objective of Ashton Ballito is to compete and achieve at the highest level.
