A school dedicated to the aid of learners with disabilities, aiming to create a loving and conductive environment for all it's learners. Speech Therapy Ethembeni School has a qualified Speech Language Pathologist and a Speech Correctionist whom assist children experiencing speech, language or feeding difficulties. Our therapists also assist learners with stuttering difficulties, voice disorders, childhood Apraxia of speech, Dysarthria, delayed language development. Literacy difficulties as a result of language learning difficulty or non-verbal communication (Augmented and Alternative Communication). Visually Impaired Our Teachers are perfectly qualified and equipped to engage in teaching visually impaired learners. Our students are provided access to the necessary classroom equipment which they use to engage in their lessons, while being assisted by their teachers. Starting from the foundation phase, our learners begin studying braille, practicing their typing abilities and developing a strong foundation. Physically Impaired Our facilities at Ethembeni School are orientated around students who are physically impaired which means that our school features the appropriate access channels for wheelchair access. These students are also provided with the necessary tools to facilitate a learning environment which best suits their needs. We believe that if we can create a comfortable learning environment for our students, we stand a better chance at making learning conductive and fun Physiotherapy Our Physio department has a well-equipped rehabilitation gym and aims to provide physical intervention, support and advice within the context of the child and family. The aim of the Physio is to help the child reach their full potential by individualising intervention programs to suit each learner’s needs, to participate in all school, sports, activities and daily life living. Physically Disabled learners are continuously screened throughout their academic year. Along with specialist doctors assessing for surgical intervention opportunities as the school has access to specialist doctors who provide services on a pro bono basis. Occupational Therapy Our OTs conduct individual and group assessments to assist. The group sessions focus on visual-motor integration. Spatial awareness, fine-motor skills handwriting skills and specialised Grade R concept group. Individual therapy is more specialised for a specific learner’s needs. The aim is to assist the leaner in reaching his/her developmental potential so that they may succeed inside and outside the classroom.
